On Episode 28 of the Üks Kaks Maks podcast, we were honored to sit down with one of the most exciting fighters on the international kickboxing scene – Miguel Trindade, currently ranked #1 in the GLORY Kickboxing featherweight division.
Miguel joined us in Estonia while in town to lead a seminar hosted by Üks Kaks Maks. What started as a technical weekend turned into something much deeper — a raw, honest and emotional conversation about struggle, mindset, sacrifice, and the path to becoming world-class.
From Sintra to the World
Miguel’s story starts in Sintra, Portugal, where as a kid he was introverted and lacking direction. His father, sensing his son needed structure, nudged him into Muay Thai. That decision would set the foundation for a lifetime of discipline.
But this wasn't a typical athlete success story. There was no early fame, no big contracts. Miguel was just a kid showing up to the gym, trying to figure life out. It was only after years of hard training and surviving on minimal means that he began to make a name for himself.
The Injury That Changed Everything
At one of the highest points in his early career, disaster struck — a devastating ACL tear. Miguel was suddenly sidelined for over a year.
Unable to fight, he found himself teaching kids' classes to stay connected to the sport, and even worked construction to support himself. He admits that depression nearly took hold. But he also says this was the most important year of his life. It taught him resilience, patience, and forced him to rebuild — not just physically, but mentally.
“That injury broke me and rebuilt me,” Miguel shares during the episode.
GLORY and the Climb to #1
When Miguel returned, it wasn’t just to fight — it was to prove something. He had something to say with his fists, and the world began to notice. In a span of just a few fights, he climbed the GLORY Kickboxing rankings, eventually defeating the #1 featherweight and claiming the top spot himself.
What separates Miguel isn't just his sharp striking or movement — it's his clarity of mind. He trains with intention, fights with purpose, and never lets hype cloud his focus.
He also opens up about being approached by major managers and promoters, and why he turned them down. Independence, staying true to his values, and building his career with people he trusts matters more to him than any offer.
Real Content. Real Impact.
Miguel has also built a massive online following, not by following trends but by sharing what’s real: his training, his struggles, his relationship with his girlfriend, and his daily routines.
One clip of him and his girlfriend sparring went viral, reaching millions. Instead of letting it become a gimmick, Miguel used that attention to spread positivity and depth. He talks about how he thinks about content like he thinks about fighting: with strategy, consistency, and authenticity.
He believes every fighter today needs to understand content and financial freedom — not just wins and losses.
A Fighter With a Message
Throughout the episode, Miguel emphasizes that fighting is just one part of his identity. He speaks openly about managing emotions, being mentally sharp, and finding balance between aggression and peace.
“You can be a killer in the ring and kind outside of it. That’s real strength,” he tells us.
